The Thermo Scientific KingFisher Flex (Cat. No. 5400630) is a benchtop magnetic-particle processor that automates extraction and purification of DNA, RNA, proteins, and cells for 24 or 96 samples per run. Rather than transferring liquid between wells, the system moves 96 magnetic rods and tip combs through a sequence of plates on a rotating eight-position turntable — a design that eliminates carryover and cross-contamination while completing a full 96-sample run in under 20 minutes. Because the magnet heads are interchangeable, a single instrument scales from 20 µL PCR plates up to 5 mL 24-deep-well formats without replacing the platform.

This unit is a 2020 build in the current production configuration, supplied with the 96 deep-well magnet head and an integrated heating capability spanning ambient +5 °C to +115 °C for enhanced binding and elution. The open-platform architecture accepts any magnetic bead chemistry — MagMAX, MagJET, and third-party kits alike — making it equally suited to genomics core facilities, veterinary and forensic laboratories, biomarker discovery, and QC environments.

Critically, this is offered as a complete, ready-to-commission package: instrument, installed magnet head, and a Dell control laptop with Thermo Scientific BindIt software already installed and verified in communication with the instrument. Bare KingFisher units sold without a PC or licensed software are notoriously difficult to bring online, since BindIt requires correct serial-number registration and a supported OS environment. • Condition: Used / Inspected.
• Functional Status: Powers on and boots normally. The instrument display shows the "Computer control / USB" state with the included laptop actively connected — confirming that the LCD, keypad, USB communication port, and BindIt software handshake are all operational, and that the instrument's serial number is correctly registered in the software. The unit has not been run through a complete bead-based purification protocol. Magnet-head travel under protocol, turntable indexing during a run, and heating-block performance were not verified. Sold as inspected; final application qualification is the buyer's responsibility.
• Cosmetic Status: Very good used condition for a 2020 instrument. White and blue housing is structurally sound with only light surface wear. The clear polycarbonate turntable cover and the transparent head shield are both present, intact, and free of cracks — a frequent defect on secondary-market units. The eight-position turntable, plate stations, magnet-head carriage, and interior surfaces are clean, complete, and free of reagent residue or corrosion.
